The Not So Salty FireMedic

About

This blog is meant to be a place where all types of members from different walks of life can come to read and interact with other like minded people. I plan to try and keep this updated a couple times a month with different content.

I currently work in the fire service and have for the past decade holding ranks from line personnel to Chief Officer. I have worked the ranks, the positions and ran the calls and this is my way to decompress. I have worked in all settings from volunteer, part-time and full-time. I have been very fortunate in my career and have experienced ups, downs and everything in between.

Scroll down for topics that will be covered in various blogs/ podcasts.

FIRE

What we are all here for, the adrenaline rush behind the job. I hope to bring insight, experience and things that have helped or hurt me on the job. Future blogs will have insight from others that I consider to be some of the best on the job.

EMS

It seems in the Fire Service that is is the one thing we do not like talking about but the reality of it is that we spend a lot of our time on the box. In my years as a Paramedic I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. EMS will always hold a special place in my heart as I worked as a Paramedic Instructor.

Leadership

Holding positions from Probie to Chief Officer, I know what it took to climb the ranks and I know what it means to hold this position. The “Probies” of today are the leaders of tomorrow. We have to make sure we are building our future leaders up and training ourselves while we hold these positions.

Mental Health

This job takes a toll on us whether we like it or not and how we deal with our mental health affects everything we do on or off the job. This seems to be a very controversial topic over the years with PTSD on the rise. This is something that will be brought up more that once.

Family

Something that we do not think about enough is the ones that we leave at home. The ones who support us and endure with us. This job takes a toll on us but what toll does it take on our family? We leave more to be explored in future blogs and podcasts.
